Bellerive Boardwalk Restricted (On-Leash) Area
On 11 December 2023, Clarence City Council adopted changes to declared areas under its Dog Management Policy 2019 and associated Schedule of Declared Areas.
This notice advises that, in accordance with Council’s resolution, the part of the Bellerive Boardwalk (30 Cambridge Road, Bellerive) on the landward side of the stage area including the public plaza and carpark, is declared a restricted area, a condition of use of which is that dogs are permitted in this area if they are on a leash, otherwise they are restricted from entering the area off-leash or if the conditions of an event permit declare dogs are not permitted at the event.
The effect of the change is that dogs are now permitted on-leash in this area, unless there is an event taking place at which dogs are not allowed.
A consultation was held to ask the community their views on the proposed change and these responses were used to inform the decision. The proposal was strongly supported by the community with 87% agreeing with the proposed change. See the results on the Your Say Website.
The declaration will take effect from Sunday, 24 December 2023 and will remain in force for 5 years. Further changes approved at the meeting to declared areas of South Street Reserve, Bellerive, to facilitate an off-leash greyhound exercise area trial and other matters will take effect early in 2024 on a date to be advised in a further public notice.
Copies of Council’s Dog Management Policy and updated Schedule of Declared Areas (including a plan showing the area where dogs are now permitted) are available on the website or at Council offices.
