Meningococcal A, C, W & Y vaccine
The Tasmanian Government has extended its meningococcal vaccination program due to a localised outbreak of the W strain.
All Tasmanians aged from six weeks to 20 years (those born after 1st August, 1997) are now able to receive this vaccination for free.
For more information on meningococcal go to the DHHS website or call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.
Diphtheria, Tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) is recommended and available for people who are at risk or caring for a person who is at risk, eg. newborn babies under six months of age. The cost of the vaccine cost is $45 with payment in cash required prior to having vaccination. We ask that you please bring the correct amount as there are no change or eftpos/credit card facilities available.
These vaccines are currently free only for pregnant women, given in the third trimester (preferably between 28 -32 weeks).
We do not offer travel vaccinations, contact your doctor for this information.
School immunisation programs are run free of charge for year seven students.
Information and consent form/s are distributed to students through their school at the beginning of each school year. Parents are requested to read the information, sign the consent form and return it to the school by the due date.
If you have returned the relevant forms to the school and your child is absent on the day vaccination is done, you will receive an invitation to attend one of our immunisation clinics, or you can visit your doctor. After hours clinics are also available for catch-up vaccines. Please contact us on 03 6217 9570 for more information.
More information on the school immunisation program is available on the DHHS website.
We only hold records for immunisations that have been provided by us.
To obtain records of immunisations given by other providers i.e. a doctor, other councils, contact them directly.
For all children born after 1996 up until the age of seven, immunisation records are available from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809 or visit www.medicare.gov.au.
The Department of Health and Human Services retain some old records of immunisation administered at child health clinics and can be contacted on 1300 135 513.
