Clarence City Council welcomes Labor’s commitment to fund eight community and council projects across the city.

Labor’s funding for community projects in Clarence includes $22,000 for essential safety upgrades to St Barnabas Church, $500,000 for the Warrane Neighbourhood House ‘Hood in the Hub’ project, as well as facilities upgrades to the Lindisfarne Sailing Club, Clifton Beach SLSC, Rosny Bowls Club and Bayview Park and playspace.

Clarence City Council Mayor, Councillor Brendan Blomeley, said it was fantastic to see projects with significant community value and importance receive a promise of funding, and welcomed the funding of strategic Council projects.

“Along with recent announcements of $3.4 million in upgrades to Wentworth Park sports ground, and $5 million to fund Council’s Youth Centre relocation design and construction project, we are very pleased to receive $400,000 in funding to bring the Sandford Hall up to DDA compliance,” Mayor Blomeley said.

“Sandford Hall is an important community asset as well as serving as an evacuation centre for the region in the event of a natural disaster or emergency, and the improvements were listed as a strategic project in the City of Clarence Prospectus 2023-24.

Mayor Blomeley said he has also received correspondence from Tasmanian Green leader, Dr Rosalie Woodruff MP, and welcomes Dr Woodruff’s commitment to work with Council.

“Council has proactively engaged with all Franklin candidates, sending a copy of the City of  Clarence Prospectus 2023-24 and City of Clarence community-based election projects – March 2024, to every candidate in the Franklin electorate, to help them better understand  the needs of our growing community,” he said.

“Since the election was called, I have met with a range of candidates from across the political spectrum and will continue to do so throughout the campaign.

“Clarence City Council will continue to engage with the other political parties and Franklin candidates to ensure the best interests of our Eastern Shore community are well served.”
