The dedication towards creating opportunities for her community saw Jodie Presnell awarded Citizen of the Year at the annual Clarence Community Spirit Gala and Citizenship Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 21 May at Blundstone Arena.
Jodie has played a key role in the Pipe Clay Coastcare Group and Pipe Clay Playgroup for over 17 years and continues to give to her community through the organisation of community events across the region, which bring so many opportunities for the community to come closer together.
The nominees for these awards, across four categories, represented a diverse cross-section of the community, with involvement in a wide range of organisations.
Clarence City Council Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the gala was a celebration of the people who work to make a difference in our community.
“It is a time to showcase the generosity and hard work that our nominees put into making Clarence a better place for others,” said Mayor Blomeley
“Despite the varied backgrounds and affiliations, a common thread among the nominees and winners was their selflessness and strong work ethic.”
The panel of judges faced the daunting task of selecting winners from more than 20 highly deserving nominees for the Community Event, Young Citizen, Senior Citizen, and Citizen of the Year awards.
The strength of each candidate made their decision-making process extremely challenging.
“The recipients of these awards, along with every nominee, embody the spirit of selflessness within our Clarence Community. They are unsung heroes whose remarkable contributions have enriched the lives of others, without the expectation of acknowledgment or praise,” said Mayor Blomeley.
“I urge everyone to take the time to read about all of our nominees and their fantastic efforts.”
