We conducts fuel reduction burns in our bushland reserves during autumn and winter.
These planned burns are part of our Bushfire Mitigation Strategy 2024 – 2033 and are also governed by Bushfire Mitigation Plans that identify key areas for fuel and hazard management.
The burns reduce vegetation fuel load and help us manage the bushfire risk to keep the community safe and protect ecological values in our reserves.
We are about to begin our bushfire mitigation program for autumn 2026, which is the safest time to conduct burns.
Locations planned this season include
For safety reasons, planned burns are only conducted during favorable weather conditions and the time and dates will vary accordingly. Daily weather conditions will impact whether planned burns are ignited or not.
All planned burns are registered with the Tasmanian Fire Service. These can be found at the TFS What’s Burning Now page. Up-to-date information about current fire incidents, including fuel reduction burns, are listed at TasALERT.
Health-related guidance can also be found at What’s Burning Now. This is for anyone concerned about air quality, or people with medical conditions who may need to prepare and protect against bushfire smoke.
Our website and social media channels will be updated with any new information about planned burns and reserve closures as it arises.
Nearby residents will be informed via a letter drop closer to the planned dates.
Restricted public access
The burn area will be closed to the public, and surrounding land and nearby trails may have restricted access during the burn.
Signage at all relevant entry points will inform visitors about the restricted access, and public notices will also be installed at entrances.
Certain weather conditions may ignite flames, and smoke and ash may remain in the air. Please take care for several days following the burn.

We’re currently working in Gellibrand Lane, Opossum Bay to improve drainage by installing a new stormwater inlet pit.
This new drain captures rainwater from the road and safely channels it underground, helping to prevent pooling water and flooding when it rains heavily.
There may be some minor traffic disruptions while works are underway due to limited space on Gellibrand Lane. Traffic management will be in place to keep vehicles moving, and the road will remain open.
Works are expected to take a few days to complete and are scheduled to be finished by 30 June 2026.
1 January 2026 - 30 June 2026
This project is supported by a $60,000 Active Tasmania Grant, approved in December 2025.
Works are currently on track for completion by June 2026, with delivery timelines subject to resource availability.
7 July 2025 - 9 June 2026
Construction of the new Cambridge Dog Park at Cambridge Oval will commence in July and will be complete in early 2026.
The park is set to open in early 2026, and once complete, will be Clarence’s second dedicated off-lead facility, designed to provide a safe, inclusive, sensory and enriching space for dogs and their owners.
Spanning 1.5 hectares, the park will include:
Initial works will see the land being reshaped for better accessibility and the repurposing of existing dams, laying the foundation for a thoughtful and inviting open space.
These works are part of the broader Cambridge Oval Master Plan.

We are planning upgrade works on Pass Road, Rokeby, between Glebe Hill Road and Connor Place to improve safety and accommodate increased traffic and heavier vehicles.
The upgrade will be delivered in stages. Works between Winterborne Road and Connor Place are intended to be undertaken in 2026, subject to contractor availability. This will be followed by works between Glebe Hill Road and Winterborne Road.
The project includes widening and upgrading the road, relocating underground services and overhead power lines, and improving stormwater infrastructure. A shared path is planned on the western side of Pass Road from Glebe Hill Road to Winterborne Road, with allowance for a future shared path from Winterborne Road to Connor Place.
In early 2026, key planning milestones were achieved. An Aboriginal Heritage Assessment has been completed, with approval granted by Aboriginal Heritage Tasmania. City of Clarence engineering plans are approximately 90% complete, with final drafting, internal approvals and a Natural Values Assessment underway to confirm impacts on vegetation and required protection measures.
Design refinements have reduced the amount of land required for the project. Land is now only required from three properties, and we are progressing valuations, surveys and negotiations with those property owners.
TasNetworks is preparing to relocate high-voltage mains to enable road widening and culvert construction. These works are scheduled for January–February 2026 and will not require road closures.
Once agreements with property owners are finalised and planning assessments are complete, City of Clarence intends to call tenders for construction in the current financial year.
