A public health advisory is in place for Pipe Clay Lagoon.
At this time, it is not recommended to consume recreationally harvested shellfish from this area, including mussels, oysters, clams, pipis, cockles, wedge shells, abalone, and scallop roe.
This is due to toxic algal blooms (also known as harmful algal blooms or HABs) currently present in Tasmanian waters. Elevated levels of algal toxins have been detected in shellfish from affected regions, including Pipe Clay Lagoon.
This advisory applies only to recreational harvesting and does not affect commercially sold seafood.
