At the City of Clarence, ‘Council’ isn’t just a building or a logo. We’re your neighbours. We’re your friend from the dog park, the parent you chat to at your kids’ football game, or the person you walk past on the beach each day.
We are locals — just like you.
All 12 Councillors and nearly two-thirds of our 400-strong team live right here in Clarence, we’re working every day to help our city thrive. Whether it’s fixing roads, running community programs, or answering your phone calls—we’re doing it because we care about this place we all call home.
We know people are passionate about where they live—and that’s a good thing. But when that passion turns into abuse, it doesn’t just hurt ‘the Council’ … it hurts us, your community.
Behind every phone call, every email, every comment on social media is a real person — someone who lives down the street from you, knows someone you know, supports the same community group you do. . Just like you, they want the best for Clarence.
This campaign is a simple reminder: kindness matters. Productive conversations and respectful feedback help us grow. Abuse and aggressive behaviour only drive communities apart.
Let’s lift each other up. Let’s have tough conversations — but with compassion and respect. Let’s build a better Clarence, together.

We can disagree without disrespect
In 2025, the Local government Association Tasmania launched the Lift the Tone campaign to address the increasing abuse and intimidation faced by elected representatives and council staff.
This campaign calls on all Tasmanians to stand against abuse and commit to respectful communication. Toxic behaviour—whether online or in public—hurts individuals, families and our democracy.
Sign the pledge now and help lift the tone of public debate.
