Social Media Terms of Use
Engagement and communication on social media platforms must always be safe for both community members and council employees/contractors while allowing people to explore ideas and participate in conversations productively and respectfully.
On our social media accounts, we embrace conversation and a diverse range of opinions and values, and in these forums, we ask that users follow the below Terms of Use.
- Abusive, harassing, threatening, and/or offensive language will not be tolerated.
- Do not share or post comments that are defamatory, knowingly false, or information that is factually inaccurate which may mislead others.
- Respect the privacy of others and yourself by not sharing personal information. Content that violates any obligation of privacy or confidentiality will be removed.
- Does not violate the privacy, moral, or any other right of any third party or infringe upon any copyright, trademark, trade secret, or patent of any third party.
- Do not post anything that constitutes spam such as advertisements, repetitive or irrelevant comments, or the promotion of products or services not endorsed by Clarence City Council.
- Clarence City Council does not accept any responsibility for content published on any third-party sites, social media accounts or pages.
- By sharing/posting content (images, comments, links etc) you consent for the content to be retained as a record by the Clarence City Council, as required by the Archives Act 1983 (Tas.) and to be used by council (unless stated otherwise).
- Comments from accounts impersonating Clarence City Council, a Clarence City Council Councillor, or any account misrepresenting their identity will be removed.
- Clarence City Council may restrict public commenting on any post if council deems it appropriate to do so.
In response to a breach of the Social Media Terms of Use, council may take one or more of the following actions:
- Removal of comment/s – any comment that, in the view of the council moderator, is directed at a person or persons rather than the topic or process, or is abusive, defamatory, rude, repetitive, or inappropriate in nature will be deleted.
- Blocking – a user who continues to violate the Terms of Use may have their access to council’s social media sites blocked permanently.
- Automatic blocking – a participant who posts or links to inappropriate, offensive or illegal material will be immediately blocked from council’s social media
