Fort Beach is sheltered from swells coming up the Derwent River due to the Cape Deliverance headland at the southern end, the aspect of the beach and Bruny Island.

The beach faces south west.

Fort Beach access is via Blessington Street Reserve.

This beach is managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service.
