We are monitoring water quality in the Kangaroo Bay Rivulet at Rosny Park following recent observations of odor and low oxygen levels in the water.
While the risk to human health is considered low, visitors are encouraged to discourage dogs from swimming in or drinking the water.
Low oxygen levels can occur naturally in waterways, particularly during warm and dry weather when water levels are low and flow is slow. Organic material such as leaves and grass, along with nutrients from stormwater runoff, can temporarily reduce oxygen levels as they break down.
These conditions are not permanent and usually improve once rainfall increases water flow and re-oxygenates the water. At this stage, it is not possible to predict how long current conditions will remain.
We have installed signage on site and are carrying out clean-ups where possible. We will continue to monitor the rivulet and respond if conditions change.
