The Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy 2026 (STRLUS) is now in effect, following its declaration by the Tasmanian Government on 11 September 2026.
STRLUS provides a framework to guide strategic land use and development across the Southern Tasmania region. It helps guide how land is used and developed as the region grows and changes over the coming decades.
What does this mean for Clarence?
For the City of Clarence, the STRLUS provides an important strategic framework for planning and land use decisions.
Clarence’s Local Provisions Schedule (LPS) must be consistent with, and informed by, the STRLUS. Planning scheme amendments, including proposals to change the zone or code applying to a property, must consider how the proposed change aligns with the relevant regional strategies in the STRLUS.
The STRLUS 2026 replaces the previous Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy, which was first declared in October 2011.
Community consultation
The review of STRLUS was a collaborative process involving the Tasmanian Government and the 12 councils of Southern Tasmania, with input from stakeholders and the community.
The draft STRLUS was released for public consultation from 19 November 2025 to 22 February 2026, providing the community and other stakeholders with an opportunity to review the proposed strategy and provide feedback.
Feedback received through the consultation helped inform the final STRLUS 2026, which has now been declared and is effective.
