Tasmania’s long-awaited container refund scheme, Recycle Rewards, kicks off on 1 May 2025, offering 10 cents back for every eligible drink container you return.

Drink containers make up about 45% of Tasmania’s litter by volume. Recycle Rewards aims to reduce this by half and double the recycling rate of eligible containers, supporting the development of a circular economy.

How It Works

  1. Collect: Save your eligible drink containers—most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel, and liquid paperboard (carton) containers between 150mL and 3 litres are accepted.
  1. Return: Take them to one of the several drop off points in Clarence –  Shoreline, Glebe Hill Shopping Centre and Lauderdale Shops – stay up-to-date on locations with the Recycle Rewards Map. There are up to 49 locations across the state.
  1. Refund: Choose how you receive your 10-cent refund—options include cash, electronic deposit, vouchers, or donating to a registered community group or charity.

The scheme is administered by TasRecycle, with refund points operated by TOMRA Cleanaway Tasmania
