Surf Life Saving Tasmania is installing public rescue equipment at Clifton and Bellerive beaches this week to help people in difficulty in the water.
Three rescue equipment canisters are being installed, with two at the entrances to the beach access paths from the car park at Clifton Beach, and one at the entrance to the beach access path opposite the playground at Bellerive Beach.
Each canister contains a rescue flotation tube that members of the public can access in an emergency to help keep someone afloat while they wait for assistance.
In an emergency, call 000. Instructions on each canister explain how to use the equipment. Anyone who cannot swim should not use the equipment or enter the water.
Surf Life Saving Tasmania is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and replacing the rescue equipment.
