If you’re planning on heading to Howrah Beach, please be aware of a recent sewage contamination of our stormwater system. People should avoid swimming within 50 metres of the stormwater outfall in front of the gravel car park off Howrah Road until further notice – see map below.
TasWater has located and addressed the cause of the sewer leak into the stormwater system and is working with City of Clarence and public health authorities to manage the issue.
As a precaution, warning signs and barricades have been installed around the stormwater outfall. The public is advised to stay clear of the area and avoid contact with the water in this location until further notice.
Howrah Beach is still open but please avoid swimming in the immediate around the stormwater outfall.
