City of Clarence conducts fuel reduction burns in our bushland reserves during autumn and winter.

These planned burns are part of our Bushfire Mitigation Strategy 2024 – 2033 and are also governed by Bushfire Mitigation Plans that identify key areas for fuel and hazard management.

The burns reduce vegetation fuel load and help us manage the bushfire risk to keep the community safe and protect ecological values in our reserves.

We are about to begin our bushfire mitigation program for autumn 2026, which is the safest time to conduct burns.

Locations planned this season include

  • Glebe Hill Reserve.
  • Waverley Flora Park.
  • Wiena Reserve.
  • Rokeby Hills Reserve.

For safety reasons, planned burns are only conducted during favorable weather conditions and the time and dates will vary accordingly. Daily weather conditions will impact whether planned burns are ignited or not.

All planned burns are registered with the Tasmanian Fire Service. These can be found at the TFS What’s Burning Now page.

Up-to-date information about current fire incidents, including fuel reduction burns, are listed at TasALERT.

Health-related guidance can also be found at What’s Burning Now. This is for anyone concerned about air quality, or people with medical conditions who may need to prepare and protect against bushfire smoke.

Our website and social media channels will be updated with any new information about planned burns and reserve closures as it arises.

Nearby residents will be informed via a letter drop closer to the planned dates.

Restricted public access

The burn area will be closed to the public, and surrounding land and nearby trails may have restricted access during the burn.

Signage at all relevant entry points will inform visitors about the restricted access, and public notices will also be installed at entrances.

Certain weather conditions may ignite flames, and smoke and ash may remain in the air. Please take care for several days following the burn.
