We have partnered with TasRecycle and Recycle Rewards to trial new container collection units on selected public waste and recycling bins at Kangaroo Bay and Bellerive Quay.
The purpose-built baskets and racks provide an easy way for eligible 10-cent drink containers to be separated from general waste and recycling. Containers can then be collected and returned to a Recycle Rewards refund point by any member of the community.
The trial aims to:
- Reduce litter in public spaces.
- Increase the recovery of eligible drink containers.
- Support Tasmania’s Recycle Rewards container refund scheme.
- Improve the quality of recyclable materials by keeping eligible containers out of general waste and recycling bins.
A total of 24 of these new units have been installed across Kangaroo Bay and Bellerive Quay, making City of Clarence the first council in southern Tasmania to trial this type of public infrastructure.
The locations were selected due to their high visitor numbers, nearby hospitality venues and proximity to the Recycle Rewards refund point at Eastlands.
We will monitor the trial in partnership with TasRecycle and Recycle Rewards, with the results helping determine whether similar units could be installed at other locations across Clarence.
