Following a nationwide recall of imported kinetic sand products, Southern Waste Solutions (SWS) has advised that the previously offered free disposal arrangement for asbestos-containing kinetic sand concluded at the end of 2025.
Affected products should not be placed in household bins, as improper disposal of asbestos-containing material increases the risk of exposure to waste collection drivers and landfill operators.
If handling suspected affected products, it is recommended that people wear disposable gloves and a mask, and either seal the kinetic sand in its original container or double bag it in heavy-duty plastic and securely seal with tape.
