Immunisation is a simple and effective way of protecting against certain diseases.
We operate regular immunisation clinics and we also administer a school immunisation program in the city.
Booking is essential for vaccinations at the community clinics.
If you have had vaccinations outside of Australia that are not recorded in myGov, or you are unsure, please contact the Immunisation Team on 03 6217 9570 or email environmentalhealth@ccc.tas.gov.au before making an online booking.

Our immunisation clinics
- Location: Clarence Integrated Care Centre, 16 Bayfield Street, Rosny Park (access is via the car park at the rear of the building).
- When: Clinics are held on the first and third Thursday of each month.
Pharmacies provide free flu shot for over 65 of age through the National Immunisation Program. Please contact your local pharmacy to make an appointment and check availability.

Vaccinations are provided by City of Clarence under the Australian and State Government vaccination schedules, which are free of charge for eligible groups.
A 15-minute wait after vaccination is recommended.
Please note: if the person being vaccinated has received prior vaccinations outside of Australia that have not been recorded in myGov, or you are unsure if they have been recorded, please contact the Immunisation Team on 03 6217 9570 before making an online booking.

Other Immunisations
Flu Vaccines
Flu vaccines are free for the following groups:
- All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and older
- Pregnant women (during any stage of pregnancy)
- Infants 6 months to less than 5 years
- People with eligible medical conditions – see Health Tas website.
- All people aged 65 years and older
Other groups are recommended to check availability with their GP or pharmacy.
Meningococcal A, C, W & Y vaccine
Meningococcal ACWY vaccine (Nimenrix) is now funded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for children at 12 months of age and students in year 10. Additionally, all 15 to 19 year-olds who have not had this immunisation are eligible for the free vaccine which is available at council’s community clinics or by visiting your GP.
Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccines
These are recommended and free through our community immunisation clinics for the following:
- Pregnant women
- All 12 to 13 year olds (grade 7)
The vaccine is also recommended for people who are at risk or are caring for a person who is at risk (e.g. newborn babies under 6 months of age). Vaccines for this group are available through your GP or pharmacy.
Shingles vaccine
Shingles vaccines is free for over 65’s.
School immunisation
School immunisation programs are run free of charge for grade 7 and grade 10 students:
- Grade 7 (Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis (dTpa)
- Grade 10 (Meningococcal ACWY)
At the beginning of each school year, information and online booking options, are distributed through schools. Parents are requested to review, consent and add their child to the online booking system.
If you have already submitted consent and your child is absent on the scheduled vaccination day, you will be notified via email.
Missed school vaccinations?
Free catch-up immunisations are available at approved pharmacies for individuals under 20 years of age. The HPV vaccine is also funded for people up to and including 25 years of age.
Please contact your local pharmacy beforehand to book a time and check stock availability and don’t forget to take your medicare card with your child’s details with you.
This is a great option for parents/guardians who may prefer to accompany their child during immunisation(s) or need to arrange catch-up vaccinations.
The vaccination for students at pharmacies is supplied free of charge.

Immunisation records
We only hold records for immunisations that have been provided by us. To obtain records of immunisations given by other providers i.e. a doctor, contact them directly.
For all children born after 1996 up until the age of seven, immunisation records are available from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809 or visit the Medicare website.
The Department of Health and Human Services retain some old records of immunisation administered at child health clinics and can be contacted on 1300 135 513.
School immunisation records
School based immunisation records are held by each local government body. Contact the local government in the area where the school your child attends or attended to find out how to obtain the record.
