Community Grants

From February 2024, council’s Community Grant and Sponsorship program will be restructured and use a new system to make applying for grants easier, clearer, and fairer.

To allow time to make the changes and for the system to be set up, the Community Support, Partnership, and Land and Coastcare grant programs which would ordinarily open this July/August have been put on hold while work is done to deliver these changes.

We understand these changes may impact some community groups, and so to help service demand, council’s Quick Response Grants and Sponsorship programs will still be available for eligible activities during this time (or until funding is exhausted), with the addition of increased funding limits to the Quick Response Grants program.

Thank you for your patience, and we encourage you to reach out to the relevant Grants Officer to explore what opportunities are available to your club, community group or association.

In the meantime, please check back here for important updates.

We offer a Community Grants Program to support and work with individuals, groups and not-for-profit organisations that make a positive impact in our city.

The community grants program supports three broad areas:

  • Community development activities that support local communities to progress their health and wellbeing through arts and culture, community development, heritage and history, sports and recreation:
  • Economic prosperity activities such as festivals and events, that will attract tourists and visitors to our city; and
  • Environmental sustainability activities, which involve people in caring for the environment, heritage projects, and promoting sustainable living.

We offer three types of grants – quick response grants, community support grants, and partnership grants.

The tiered approach means that we can be even more responsive in helping our community.

If eligible, when the grants re-open, you are welcome to take the opportunity to apply for funds and work with us to fulfill our vision for Clarence; a place of diverse communities working together for a vibrant, prosperous and sustainable city.

More information about the types of grants available can be found below.

Does your group, organisation, association need a contribution to a small one-off event, activity or gathering?

Are you under 21 and have you been selected to represent the State in your chosen field – a sporting competition, conference, exchange or forum?

Rare opportunities sometimes deserve special support and for this reason council provides funding through the Quick Response Grant Program for the following activities:

  • Youth Assistance – Support of up to $250 for young people (Clarence residents aged 21 and under) to participate, compete or officiate at a community, state, national or international level, including sport and youth exchange; and
  • General – Projects/Events/Activities – Support of up to $500 for community groups, not-for-profit and registered charity organisations and incorporated associations for small projects, activities and events that strengthen neighbourhoods, build community resilience and wellbeing education.
