City of Clarence CEO, Ian Nelson, acknowledges today’s announcement of the decision to grant Chambroad a major project permit for a hotel at Kangaroo Bay.
This decision does not affect City of Clarence’s proceedings to seek an order for specific performance of a contract to buy back the land from Chambroad that has been set down for hearing in the Supreme Court of Tasmania in April 2027.
Mr. Nelson said that this decision, like the decision on the major project status, should have been deferred until the ownership of the land has been determined.
“The decision to grant this proposal major project status sets a very low threshold for future major project applications in Tasmania,” Mr Nelson said.
“The permit and the major project status will be of no value if ownership of the land is returned to the Council.
“City of Clarence remains committed to pursuing its claim to buy-back the land.”
