We’re improving Bellerive Beach Park playground to make the play space more accessible, enjoyable, and easier to maintain.

Sections of the playground will be temporarily closed while we make the improvements.

Works will begin mid-October and be completed by the end of November.

What’s changing?

  • New rubber surfaces will replace the soft bark under the Sky Tower and beneath the rockers.

The coastal breeze often spreads the bark across the playground, paths and garden beds, creating ongoing maintenance challenges. The rubber surface will help keep the area tidy and provide a firm surface that’s easier to walk and wheel across.

  • Three new pieces of play equipment will replace the sand pit.

The new equipment will offer more opportunities for play, particularly for younger children, while making the area easier for everyone to access. They include a boat rocker (see example below) and two musical play features.

While kids love the messy fun of the sand pit, the sand blocked drainage and often led to the closure of the water play area. After trying other solutions, we’ve decided to remove the sand pit.

There’ll still be plenty of sand to enjoy, with the beach just a short stroll away. The water play pump, channel, and dams, are staying for continued messy play.

  • New landscaping

We’re adding in some new plants and stepping stones to the central garden area.
