Our latest community engagement is now open on Your Say Clarence, encouraging all residents to tell us what they love about one of our most biodiverse bushlands – the Pilchers Hill Reserve.
The reserve, near Geilston Bay, is a popular recreational space, with several tracks and trails widely used for walking and mountain biking.
Tasmanian devils have been spotted in the reserve, avid birdwatchers have reported a range of birds including swift parrots, dusky robins, and buttonquails, and it also contains threatened tree species.
We are responsible for protecting the natural values of Pilchers Hill Reserve from threats such as illegal wood-hooking, invasive species, and loss of biodiversity, for future generations.
The Pilchers Hill Bushland Reserve Management Plan (RMP), which also covers the nearby Thoona and Lindhill Reserves, will protect what the community loves about these reserves while also tackling environmental challenges, and guiding management over the next 10 years.
Our community engagement seeks to improve our understanding on topics such as how our reserves are being used by the community and invasive species in the reserve.
The community are invited to fill out a survey. Your feedback will help finalise the draft RMP.
We have also included an option (in the survey) for people to share their photos of flora, fauna, and other experiences in the reserve.
We encourage our community to visit these reserves and enjoy the natural environments on our doorstep, taking the opportunity to plan a citizen science walk on one of several trails, such as the Pilchers Hill Loop or Geilston Gully Circuit Track, and snap some photos to share in the community engagement.
