City of Clarence proudly joins with the Tasmanian Aboriginal People to honour their ongoing resilience, strength, and achievements.

NAIDOC Week (5 July – 12 July) is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate and learn from the oldest continuing cultures on earth and to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People to our shared future.

On Monday, 6 July we joined the Tasmanian Aboriginal People at piyura kitina (Risdon Cove) to help celebrate NAIDOC Week and to listen and reflect.

The week reminds us that we all have a role to play in learning from the past, celebrating the present, and working together towards a more inclusive and respectful future.

This year’s theme – Fifty Years of Deadly – pays tribute to the Elders, community leaders, advocates, and community members who have continued to call for justice and recognition over the last five decades.

Through our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we are committed to building respectful relationships and deepening our knowledge of Tasmanian Aboriginal People.

We will continue to acknowledge the past and celebrate important events such as NAIDOC Week alongside our community, and we look forward to a future shaped by respect, partnership and reconciliation.
