Young people in Clarence will soon be given an opportunity to learn about the diverse range of careers in local government as part of the Local Futures Project.

The project gives students direct exposure to the businesses within their community, helping them connect with real careers in some of the key growth industries in our region.

City of Clarence, in partnership with Beacon Foundation, Hobart Airport, and Hutchinson Builders, will open its doors to local students where they will meet our city officers to learn about careers in local government.

Other career pathways in construction, infrastructure, aviation, and local business, will also be explored as part of the project.

City of Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley said connecting students with real people and real careers on their doorstep was helping to build the workforce of the future.

“City of Clarence is proud to be supporting its young people through sponsoring the Beacon Foundation’s Local Futures Project in Clarence,” Mayor Blomeley said.

“This is about giving students meaningful exposure to opportunities in local government that they might not otherwise know about, helping them imagine what their future could look like,” he said.

“From engineers to youth workers, planners to environmental health officers, communications specialists to fire management and biodiversity experts, there are so many pathways available at the City of Clarence.”

Mayor Blomeley said the program was also building career awareness and aspiration in youth.

“Your people are the future of Clarence, and Tasmania, which is why we always support anything that assists their development,” he said.

“At the same time, our city officers are given the chance to give back, support young people, and strengthen connection with the community.”
