On Friday 13 February we will observe the 18th anniversary of the National Apology to Members of the Stolen Generations with a one-minute silence at 11:00am across our organisation.
National Apology Day marks the anniversary of the formal apology delivered in Federal Parliament on 13 February 2008, acknowledging the injustices, grief and trauma experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as a result of past government policies, including the forced removal of children.
To mark the occasion, our flags will be flown at half-mast outside Council Chambers in Rosny.
Observing National Apology Day supports our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and provides an opportunity to reflect respectfully and acknowledge the ongoing impacts of these policies, which continue to be felt within our community.
National Apology Day is recognised across Australia as a culturally significant date and is actively acknowledged by Reconciliation Tasmania
