The tails were wagging at Rosny Farm this week as the winners of the Poochibald™ Art Prize 2025 were officially announced at a packed official opening event on Friday evening attended by artists, families, and canine-critics from across Hobart.

Now in its 12th year, the Poochibald™ has become one of Tasmania’s most beloved community exhibitions, annually showcasing hundreds of artists (and dogs) of all ages, stages, and abilities.

City of Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the Poochibald™ continues to be a true highlight of the city’s cultural calendar.

“The Poochibald™ Art Prize continues to be one of our most anticipated and best-loved exhibitions,” said Mayor Blomeley.

“Each year we are blown away by the creativity, humour and heart that goes into these works. It’s a joy to how see artists young and old are captivated by this universal theme and I encourage everyone to come and experience the exhibition for themselves.”

Participation in the show continues to grow year on year, with 2025 marking the fifth consecutive year of record-breaking entry numbers.

Mayor Blomeley said that the steady increase in submissions reflects not only the community’s deep affection for the event but also its growing reputation as one of Tasmania’s most accessible and engaging art prizes.

“Each year we’re blown away by the sheer number, and quality, of entries from across greater Hobart, and this year was certainly no exception,” he said.

The exhibition showcases more than 250 works in painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media, with winners recognised across categories including Adult, Youth, and Junior.

This year’s winning artworks impressed the judge – local artist Katy Woodroffe – with their originality, craftsmanship, and ability to capture the personality of their canine subjects – whether through fine art detail or playful expression.
