The future of Cambridge is taking shape, with City of Clarence welcoming the next stage of the Cambridge Primary School redevelopment, set to deliver a state-of-the-art gymnasium, upgraded car parking and a revitalised Cambridge Oval – transforming the precinct into a hub for students, families and the wider community.
The redevelopment is being delivered in partnership with the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP), with City of Clarence contributing land, funding for the oval upgrade, and joint investment in new car parking infrastructure.
City of Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the project was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver facilities that would benefit the whole community.
“This project is about more than a new gym for Cambridge Primary School – it is about creating a shared community asset that supports education, grassroots sport and community wellbeing,” Mayor Blomeley said.
“We are proud to play our part by working hand-in-hand with DECYP, as well as ensuring these facilities will be available for the wider community outside of school hours. Together, we are creating a modern, integrated precinct that will serve Clarence for decades to come.”
The new gymnasium will be managed by Cambridge Primary School and available for community bookings in the evenings and on weekends. Car park upgrades, to be jointly funded by Council and DECYP, will improve traffic flow and safety for both school families and visitors to Cambridge Oval.
Mayor Blomeley said the redevelopment will also deliver much-needed oval upgrades, ensuring Cambridge Memorial Oval continues to support local sport and community use as the population grows.
“This redevelopment, alongside Council’s Cambridge Oval Master Plan, ensures we are delivering for today’s young people while setting up future generations with high-quality facilities that make Cambridge an even more desirable place to live,” Mayor Blomeley said.
The Cambridge Oval Master Plan sets out a long-term vision for the precinct, including upgraded soccer and cricket fields, improved lighting, new and expanded amenities for clubs and spectators, better pedestrian access and pathways, expansive off-lead dog park, and landscaping that enhances the area as a community gathering space.
The integration of the school redevelopment with the master plan will deliver a precinct that supports both education and community life.
“We are already seeing the master plan come to life, with the construction of the new Cambridge Dog Park marking the first stage of improvements to the precinct,” Mayor Blomeley said.
“The school redevelopment builds on this momentum and ensures that Cambridge Memorial Oval evolves into a space that the whole community can enjoy.”
Following agreement in-principle to key terms, construction of Stage 2 of the Cambridge Primary School redevelopment is expected to commence in late 2026, with City of Clarence and DECYP continuing to work together to finalise designs and the lease and other agreements over the coming months.
