Homelessness Week will be marked across Tasmania and the rest of Australia from 4–10 August 2025. This year’s theme, “Homelessness Action Now,” sends a powerful message about the urgent need to take real, coordinated action to address the housing and homelessness crisis.
Hosted annually by Homelessness Australia, Homelessness Week builds community support and government commitment to end homelessness. Throughout the week, homelessness services and community groups raise awareness of the impacts of homelessness, advocate for change, and promote solutions through community events, media, and social media.
In Tasmania, Shelter Tas continues its work with the theme “Housing Ends Homelessness,” highlighting the fundamental role that secure, affordable housing plays in ending homelessness. From 2016 to 2021, the rate of homelessness in Tasmania increased by 45%, underscoring the scale and urgency of the crisis.
City of Clarence is proud to be partnering with Shelter Tas to support this important week of awareness and advocacy. Together, we’re encouraging our community to get involved, reduce stigma, and support real solutions to homelessness. Homelessness Week is a time to reflect on the challenges people face when without a safe place to call home, and to commit to actions that can help create lasting change.
As part of its commitment, we’re once again hosting the Off the Couch event on Thursday 7 August at Rosny Skate Park – an event focused on youth homelessness and housing support.
To bring visibility to this critical issue, Council Chambers and Richmond Bridge will be lit in purple, the colour of homelessness awareness, throughout the week.
Let’s come together to support those in need.
