What you’ll be doing
- Investigate alleged breaches of building legislation, permits, approvals and endorsed plans, including conducting site inspections, gathering evidence and implementing compliance and enforcement actions.
- Prepare recommendations and issue notices, orders, reports and other regulatory documentation in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Provide clear and consistent advice to property owners, builders, applicants and the community on building compliance matters.
- Assess plans, approvals, applications and building works to determine compliance with relevant legislation and endorsed documents.
- Maintain accurate records, evidence and compliance data to support enforcement actions and reporting requirements.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, government agencies and industry professionals to achieve timely and practical outcomes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance regulatory effectiveness, customer service and compliance outcomes.
What you’ll bring
- Experience in building, construction, compliance or a related regulatory environment.
- Sound knowledge of building legislation, regulations and the National Construction Code.
- Strong investigation, inspection, evidence-gathering and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make balanced and defensible decisions.
- Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously and exercise sound judgement in a regulatory environment.
- Confidence using computer systems, record management tools and preparing regulatory documentation.
- A current Tasmanian drivers licence and a current (dated within 6 months) National Police Check is required prior to commencement.
