Work Experience

We recognise and understand the importance of work experience and the benefits that it provides to both students and the council.

We offer work experience placements for students in years 10, 11 or 12, or equivalent, through an Australian educational institution.  Placements are available throughout the year dependant on opportunities at the time.

Work experience is unpaid and generally runs for five days on a full time or part time basis.  It places the student in a job so they can experience what it is like to be in that role and to work in a council setting.

During the placement, students are able to observe, learn and undertake some productive activities, training and skill development.

Student placements

We offer one student placement each year for a student enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering.

This placement is organised through the University of Tasmania.  Current students undertaking a Degree in Engineering are encouraged to liaise with placement officers at the university to express interest.

Placements are generally offered between December and February.

Student engineering placements are paid.
