Information gathered from the survey will be used to identify key safety issues that will provide a framework and plan to address community safety in Clarence with relevant organisations and government agencies.
A community safety plan is an opportunity to coordinate community safety and crime prevention initiatives, and to identify, prioritise and address issues at a local level.
Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Doug Chipman believes a safer Clarence will help ensure people are active and engaged in the community.
“This project is about people feeling safe in their community so they feel connected with others, have confidence in laws and policing; are able to make their own choices and confident in their own abilities and actions,” Mayor Chipman said.
“Safety or lack of safety could be what is real or what is perceived and this can often impact how safe a person feels and also how they interact within their community.”
Some of the issues could include feeling and being safe in public places, road, transport and pedestrian safety, graffiti/property damage, fire, flood, family violence, drugs and alcohol, bullying, water safety or the risk of injury.
“It is important that we first hear the community’s view on safety in Clarence so that we can understand key issues and the best way to target and address these in the future,” Mayor Chipman said.
The community safety survey is now closed.
