Clarence City Council recently commissioned Hobart artist and designer Fiona Tabart to create designs to decorate some of the traffic signal boxes in and around Clarence CBD with support from the Department of State Growth.

Fiona chose three themes inspired by life in and around Clarence as a base for her designs focussing on the natural environment, the urban environment, and the river.

Featuring recognisable images such as the spotted hand fish, and a rosella the boxes can be sighted at the intersection of Rosny Hill Road and Kangaroo Bay Drive, at the end of Riawena Road, and throughout the Clarence CBD.

The six decorated boxes were chosen as a trial to help cover and deter unsightly graffiti and enrich the urban environment in keeping with the Graffiti Reduction Strategy and Public Art Strategy.

The Clarence City Council is hoping to continue the program with more signal boxes in 2019.
