The Strategic Plan 2016-2026 provides a framework for the delivery of Council’s services and facilities to best meet and respond to the community’s needs and expectations.

The plan consists of five key areas: a people city, a well-planned liveable city, a prosperous city, an environmentally responsible city and a creative and innovative city.

Supporting these goal areas are strategies for governance and leadership, and assets and resources.

Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Doug Chipman said the five overarching goals established to underpin the plan are to ensure Council continue to meet its vision of a vibrant, prosperous and sustainable city.

“The plan holds at its core our diverse community with the aspiration for our city to continue to encourage equity and inclusion for all to live healthy and fulfilling lives.

“To achieve this, we need to provide a well-planned city with services and infrastructure that meet not only our current needs but also our future needs.

The Strategic Plan highlights the importance of developing the economy in Clarence.

“Promotion of sectors such as sport/recreation/leisure, food, wine, heritage, cultural activities and lifestyle/living options will be beneficial for both residents and visitors to Clarence,” Mayor Chipman said.

“Our commitment to looking after our natural environment and in particular developing strategies to respond to climate change is also vital for the sustainability of our City.”

Being a creative and innovative city is also a prominent feature of the plan.

Adoption of “Smart City” policies and strategies to create efficiencies in infrastructure and services and the continuation of encouraging business enterprise in Clarence were also identified in the plan.

The plan has been endorsed following community consultation last month.
