Clarence City Council has received a number of creative and colourful submissions to help with the design of a new park in Blossom Court in Cambridge.
Cambridge Primary School approached Council to use the consultation as part of a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) project with students from all grades participating.
Council’s Landscape Architect gave a briefing to students and asked them to design their best playground or playground element ideas. Students visited the site and formulated their ideas.
A number of drawings and sculptures were created and presented to the Mayor of Clarence late last year.
“Council is delighted that so many students participated in this consultation and gave us their best ideas,” Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Doug Chipman said.
“This project gave students the opportunity for their creativity to run wild and there were certainly some very colourful submissions.
“Talking to students it was wonderful to hear their excitement about the park and how it might take shape,” Mayor Chipman said.
“Council’s Landscape Architect is now reviewing all submissions received, looking closely at the drawings and comments and interpreting this information to revise the park master plan in how it will look and function.”
In addition to participation from students, 67 submissions were received on the park, specific elements and the name.
“We are grateful to Cambridge Primary School and thank them for the student’s involvement in the design process as well as all members of the community who gave us their feedback.”

The park was identified as a priority in the Cambridge Master Plan and Council has allocated $350,000 in funding for the 2018-19 financial year.
