Winter sessions of the program have now commenced and will run until 31 August 2016 proving that getting fit and having a laugh along the way doesn’t stop in the cooler months.

Sessions will be held on Wednesdays at 9.30am at Simmons Park in Lindisfarne and on Fridays at 9.30am at Bellerive Beach Park. Participants can come along to any session; no bookings are taken and it’s free.

Margaret Genge has been attending Fitness in the Park sessions for more than three years.

“The first time I came along, I couldn’t go for any more than five minutes, but the trainer, Sherri, was wonderful. She just walked with me for the rest of the session,” Margaret said.

“I improved every week the more I came along to the classes. Everyone here is really supportive and really encouraging. The group makes you want to come back and back to because they are very supportive and you get some good laughs.”

Fitness in the Park is run by a qualified trainer and caters for all ages and abilities – from beginners to over 50s and many others in between. Sessions include flexibility, core stability, boxing fitness, functional training, aerobic exercise, circuit training, balance, body weight exercise and hill walking. The program is also a great way to enjoy local parks and beaches.

“Fitness in the Park is good for you and you may even think to yourself that you will never do it again, but go past that and come the next week and then the following week and before long, you won’t want to stop,” said participant Kerry Wharton.

“At the end of the session, we always feel really good, endorphins are up and you can get into the day. I couldn’t be without it.”
