The proposal by Hunter Developments includes hotel accommodation, serviced apartments, restaurants, bars, a function centre and car parking.

The proposed site for the accommodation hotel is on the old ferry terminal site while the training school would be located at 76 and 78 Cambridge Road.

“The approval of the development is another step in the redevelopment of Kangaroo Bay into a retail, leisure and tourism destination for visitors and residents,” Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Doug Chipman said.

“The building elements will be amongst the most significant pieces of commercial architecture in Tasmania and truly befitting this iconic site.”

The decision follows Council awarding Hunter Developments preferred develop status in October 2016.
