As part of the annual festival, an exhibition will take place in the Rosny Barn from Melbourne-based artist, Troy Emery.
Wildlife is set to bring colourful and inquisitive thoughts to gallery visitors- and an opening night party which will warm the night with fire and light.
Described as a technicolour menagerie of imagined creatures, Wildlife will fill the gallery’s corners and loom from overhead.
Emery’s sculptures examine how we begin to understand animals through stories and mystical beauty, and the way that animals can be seen as decorative objects.
As animal extinction becomes increasingly more common, and many exotic species only exist in captivity, this exhibition will have you wondering – will the wild animals we love today, one day be as imaginary as Emery’s colourful creatures?
Human relationships with animals are complex but Wildlife asks questions in a playful way, through texture, colour and theatre.
“Council is delighted to be partnering with Dark Mofo in 2018, welcoming back one of Australia’s premier art festivals to Clarence,” Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Doug Chipman said.
“Dark Mofo events are always popular, and challenge us to think outside the square. I’m sure this year’s event, Wildlife, will bring what we know and love about this mid-winter event.”
The opening party on tonight, June 6, and is a free event featuring music, fire and light. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase.
