Clarence City Council is participating in both studies in conjunction with the relevant neighbouring Councils.

Consultants SGS Economics and Planning have been engaged to undertake a study of a potential Greater Hobart Council that includes Clarence, Hobart, Glenorchy and Kingborough councils. While KPMG has been engaged to undertake a similar study of a potential South-East Council including Clarence, Sorell, Tasman and Glamorgan-Spring Bay councils.

The projects aim to identify any demonstrable benefits from voluntary amalgamations and/or the establishment of shared services arrangements. The State Government in partnership with the councils has largely funded the studies.

The feasibility studies will be used to assist Councils to determine whether there is merit in the proposal of a South-East or Greater Hobart Council.

Both studies are in the early stages with final reports expected around August 2016.

The community will be kept informed on the feasibility studies as they progress and the outcomes from the studies will be used to consult with the community.
