Department of State Growth (DSG) representatives met with senior council staff and provided a high-level briefing on the State’s process to identify a preferred High Performance Centre site within Greater Hobart.

14 August 2023

At a Council workshop, councillors provided guidance to staff, to work with DSG representatives to explore the viability of a High Performance Centre within Rosny Parklands, subject to the specifications of both Council and AFL at the Rosny Parklands.

18 September 2023

At a council workshop:

  • DSG project representatives provided a briefing to Councillors about the benefits that a High Performance Centre could bring to a local area
  • MGS Architects presented analysis of a high-level concept within the north-east section of the Parklands, incorporating the AFL’s requirements for the High Performance Centre and design criteria provided by Council staff.

25 September 2023

At a workshop, Councillors received an update on the project, and briefings from staff on:

  • a proposed community consultation approach
  • other locations within Clarence raised in discussion include Seven Mile Beach, Geilston Bay Recreation Area and Bayview Secondary College Sporting Precinct, none of which is owned by Council. They may be eligible for selection under the State’s process, but any expression of interest to the State Government would need to be made by the relevant landowner.

At Council’s meeting, Council endorsed consultation be undertaken with the community on the potential for hosting a HPC in Clarence.

10 October to 7 November 2023

Council undertook community consultation, receiving 959 responses.

11 December 2023

Clarence City Council endorsed to a proposal to the Department of State Growth providing in principle support for the Tasmania Football Club AFL/AFLW High Performance Centre to be built within Rosny Parklands (the former Rosny public golf course) and Charles Hand Memorial Park (parkland behind Rosny College).

12 December 2023

Endorsed proposal submitted to Department of State Growth.

22 December 2023

Tasmanian Government announced Clarence City Council had been the successful bid and Rosny was the preferred site for the AFL/AFLW High Performance Centre.

18 March 2024

Petition tabled calling for a public meeting tabled.

6 May 2024

Council endorsed an addition its original proposal to include the option to locate the AFL High Performance Centre entirely on the site of the former golf course.
