Clarence City Council Accessible Information Project

Janine Combes of Community Focus has been contracted by the Clarence City Council Disability Access Advisory Committee to consult with members of the community, relevant organisations and other stakeholders, to develop a set of guidelines and provide recommendations to Council about how information can be provided in appropriate and accessible ways.

This project is a key action arising from the Clarence City Council Disability Access Plan 2007.

The focus of the project is the provision of information that is accessible for:

  • people with disabilities (e.g. vision, physical, intellectual disabilities)
  • older community members who may have age related reading difficulty
  • people with learning or literacy issues (e.g. little formal education, dyslexia).

However, any improvement in the legibility of documents for these groups are also likely to benefit the general community (e.g. use of plain English, clear layout for documents).

A survey has been developed as part of the consultation process for Council to seek specific feedback from the community.

Complete the survey and send it to Clarence City Council by 30 January 2009:

PO Box 96, Rosny Park 7018 or email jandersson@ccc.tas.gov.au
