Tasmania's education system
Tasmanian students typically attend school for 11 to 13 years. Seven years of primary education and four years at high school followed by a further two years at a senior secondary college to year 12. Tasmania was the first Australian State to introduce senior secondary colleges, which are designed to prepare students for Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutes, university and the workforce.

Education providers
The Clarence community is well serviced by educational institutions, including 20 primary schools, 6 high schools, a senior secondary school and a TAFE Tasmania campus. There are also a number of industry specific training providers including Tasfire Training, the Tasmanian Police Academy, the Hydro Electric Commission Mornington Training Centre and Road Transport Training, as well as many privately operated training providers and outlets for Adult Education. The Department of Education's Bowen Support Service provides educational support to the community, including those with special needs.
Rosny College is Clarence's senior secondary school, providing a wide range of subjects for approximately 1400 students. Rosny College is renowned as a national leader in the performing arts and also provides an extensive range of vocational programmes, which has lead to very successful employment outcomes for their students.
TAFE Tasmania is the major provider of Government approved and registered vocational training courses in Tasmania. The Clarence campus offers a range of courses in the areas of building, social services, childcare and others. TAFE Tasmania also has a number of other campuses located in nearby Hobart and surrounding areas.
