How to assist
Volunteering for 1 or 2 hours, once a week, once a fortnight or even just once a month can benefit a member of the community who, through illness disability or frailty cannot carry out day to day tasks.
The service aims to:
Meet client needs, which are best served through developing friendships with volunteers spending quality time on a regular basis. As a volunteer you can assist frail aged or younger disabled people in our community by:
- Giving encouragement and support
- Helping them with shopping
- Taking them on an outing
- Driving them to the doctor
- Spending a little time chatting
- Providing a little light gardening
As a volunteer you can also assist these people to participate in community activities.
The programme provides you with an avenue to:
- Assist clients to stay in their own homes
- Improve the quality of their lives
- Meet community focused people
- Share your skills and gain new ones
Commitment to training
Training in all aspects of volunteering will be offered by professional trainers. Appropriate training will also be available for volunteers who are assisting people with special needs.
