Clarence City Council organised a free commuter breakfast for the community at Rosny Barn on Wednesday the 14th of October as part of national Bike to Work Day.

Eastern shore residents enjoyed the first ever community breakfast event held on the east side of the bridge, joining over 140,000 people who attended free breakfasts around Australia.

"The breakfast was a huge success and well attended by high profile organisations such as Hydro, whose staff ride regularly from Hobart out to Cambridge," said Chairperson of Council's Bicycle Steering Committee, Alderman Sharyn von Bertouch.

A healthy breakfast, bike prizes and helium balloons were provided to those that participated.

Council's Climate Change Officer, Alison Johnson, also commented that the balloons were extremely popular as residents who rode could visualise exactly how much emissions had been saved by choosing a form of transport that is environmentally friendly.

Collectively riders who attended the Rosny breakfast rode at least 400km and prevented over 100kg of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere (equivalent to over 200 balloons filled with greenhouse gases).

The following participants received prizes kindly donated by Ride Bellerive, BikeRide and Clarence City Council:
