For reasons of public safety, Clarence City Council has closed access to the base of a 20-metre section of cliff along the Bellerive Bluff foreshore.

For reasons of public safety, Clarence City Council has closed access to the base of a 20-metre section of cliff along the Bellerive Bluff foreshore.

Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Jock Campbell said due to recent storm damage, the base of the cliff has eroded between the end of Gunning Street, and the Victoria Street viewing platform.

"Council engineers have closed access to the base of this section of the foreshore, due to concerns that the overhanging cliff may fall," Alderman Campbell said.

"Although this site is popular among fossickers, it is currently unsafe for public access, and members of the public are asked to consider their personal safety, and not pass through the fenced-off area."

Council will be arranging for engineering consultants to investigate the damage and report back regarding options for repair of the site.
