Benefits and opportunities

Clarence, the second largest city in the State, has a resident population of approximately 50,000 people and is ideally positioned in the economic gateway between the air and seaports of southern Tasmania.

The Clarence City Council is active in encouraging business investment and has the appropriate land use planning schemes and associated zonings in place to assist growth and expansion.

Essential infrastructure and services such as water supply, sewerage and effluent treatment, solid waste disposal, priority road routes and the telecommunications network underpin a "can do" business environment.

The central business district is located at Rosny Park in a beautiful green belt setting adjacent to the Eastlands Shopping Centre, the largest shopping complex in Tasmania.

Rosny Park is a new, bright, business and shopping precinct with free car parking.

Clarence has a number of industrial and business estates strategically located throughout the city in which both developed and greenfield sites are available in a range of lot sizes.

The Coal River Valley is a hub of agricultural production with water supplied from the South-East Irrigation Scheme. It is suitable for many specialty crops and has been described as the future heart of Tasmanian wine growing.

The long, clean coastlines provide room for growth in acquaculture, with export assisted by the proximity of the Hobart International Airport.

Tourism and visitor activities based on the heritage and natural resources of the area are expanding. The historic village of Richmond is a tourism icon of the State, and ranks alongside Port Arthur as one of Tasmania's most visited attractions.

The Kangaroo Bay area at Bellerive is shaping to become a major waterfront location with opportunities relating to tourism, recreational, commercial and residential uses and developments.
