Major employers

Clarence has a broadly diversified economy, which is not dependent upon a single employer group or industry sector. 'Small business' employers are the most significant providers of employment in Clarence.

The larger employers in the area include the Clarence City Council, Hobart International Airport, local schools and colleges (including Rosny College, Polytechnic Campus, and the Tasmanian Police Academy), Eastlands Shopping Centre, Skretting Mill (Stock Feed Mill), Entura, Department of Infrastructure, Energy & Resources, Risdon Prison, and nursing home and aged care facilities (including Freemasons Homes and the Queen Victoria Home).

Employment support services

A range of employment agencies and employment support organisations provide services to the Clarence area. Some service providers are based locally and others operate from the Hobart central business district.
