Kangaroo Bay Urban Design Plan

Clarence City Council has adopted an Urban Design Plan for the Kangaroo Bay waterfront. The masterplan will ensure that an integrated approach is taken to future development by addressing land use planning, infrastructure, landscaping, public amenity and access issues.

Council has adopted the Plan following extensive community and stakeholder consultation, involving residents, community and sporting groups, schools, government agencies and business.

The Plan includes the upgrading and landscaping of Kangaroo Bay Drive, new traffic access arrangements, the establishment of an urban plaza near the old ferry terminal, and a foreshore promenade around Kangaroo Bay linking to the Bellerive Boardwalk.

Implementation of the Plan will be subject to the preparation and endorsement by Council of detailed designs for the road and traffic components, revised planning scheme provisions, and urban design guidelines.

The consultation program brought forward valuable input from the community and stakeholders and many of the issues raised would be addressed in the next level of detail associated with the engineering design and land use planning provisions.

These include achieving the right balance between tourism, commercial, residential and recreational activities, protecting the amenity of existing residents, linking the foreshore trail network with commuter cycle routes and ensuring quality of design of future buildings and public spaces.
