It is with great pleasure that Clarence City Council announces the opening of entries for the inaugural ST.ART Festival, Vectorizer Prize Exhibition.
Established in 2008, the ST.ART Festival isTasmania’s premier street art event. Featuring a range of workshops, exhibitions and demonstrations, it serves to provide positive outlets for those pursuing street art disciplines and provides alternatives to the sometimes destructive nature of this art.
The ST.ART Festival has become a very popular institution over the past few years and in 2012, Council is building more layers into the festival, to further expand the types of street art on offer including guerrilla knitting, stencil art, reverse graffiti and the Vectorizer Prize for Digital Art.
Tracey Cockburn, Arts and Cultural Development Coordinator at the Clarence City Council says that digital art is a great leveller for modern day artists.
“With the technology available to all, we are seeing a bloom of talent amongst Tasmanian creatives pursuing works in this media from children through to long established artists. The Vectorizer Prize is a showcasing opportunity for those people who spend their time crafting and manipulating images on their computers, many of whom may not have displayed their works before. “
“By taking these works and blowing them up to billboard size, we are moving them from the screen into the public eye on a grand scale to celebrate this emerging discipline.”
Three winners will be selected from the submissions to be displayed in August on the sides of Eastlands Shopping Centre, they will also receive $500 gift cards to spend in Eastlands.
The inaugural Vectorizer Prize is open for entry from June 19 to August 1. Entry forms are available from http://www.ccc.tas.gov.au/start or to find out more email dhunnerup@ccc.tas.gov.au or call 6245 8784.
