Clarence joins nbn™ network

Clarence is set to enter a new era of fast broadband with the completion of the nbn™ network build in the region.

This is exciting news for the Clarence community as it means that homes and businesses are now able to connect to services over the nbn™ network through their preferred phone or internet provider.

What this will mean for residents and business owners in the Clarence community                                                                                                                                   

Access to fast broadband† is designed to provide a range of benefits such as:

Businesses will be able to improve their productivity through cloud based sharing with staff and customers as well as have increased opportunities to access new markets through e-commerce.

† Your experience including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network depends on the technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside nbn’s control like your equipment quality, software broadband plans and how your service provider designs its network.

 

Switching to the nbn™ network is not automatic. 

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Contact a phone or internet provider and ask about switching your phone and/or internet to the nbn™ network.  For residents in fixed line areas, there is an 18-month period for this to occur, after which the old telecommunications network is switched off.

Premises located in Fixed Wireless or Sky Muster™ satellite technology areas will not be impacted.

2. Choose the right plan:  Your phone or internet provider can help you choose a plan and speed that suits your household/business needs:

Power blackouts and the nbnnetwork

Equipment connected over the nbn™ network will not work during a power blackout.

 If you use any of the following equipment, you should talk to your equipment provider about whether your device will work when connected to the nbn™ network and what alternative solutions are available if it doesn't.

Factors that can affect your internet experience

1. Network congestion: The way a service provider configures their network can have an effect on how you experience the internet - particularly during peak usage times. Ask your service provider how they approach congestion during peak usage times. Click here to take a look at how network congestion occurs and what you can do about it.                                                            

 2. The speed tiers and plans offered by Service Providers: When choosing the speed and plan through your Service Provider, ensure you take into account your own needs – how many devices you will have online at once and what you will be using the internet for.

3. The quality of the Wi-fi unit (modem/router) provided by the Service Provider: The Wi-fi unit provided by your Service Provider will have an effect on the amount of devices that you can connect simultaneously online. It will also have an influence on how far the signal strength extends throughout your premises. Check with your service provider if the Wi-fi unit they provide will meet your expectations.

4. Wi-fi interference: Other electronics can also affect your Wi-Fi connection. Mobile phones, microwaves and TVs rely on radio signals, so having your modem/router placed as far away from these devices as possible can help.
