Ready for a spring clean? The Annual Hard Waste Clean-Up is on its way

It’s time to de-clutter the house, garage and shed and toss unwanted large items as the Annual Hard Waste Clean-Up is held throughout November.

For more than 30 years Council has held the free Hard Waste Clean-Up to allow residents the opportunity to get rid of items such as furniture, mattresses, household appliances, junk and limited amounts of building materials and electrical goods.

Collections are scheduled for the first green waste collection day in November in areas around Clarence. Rural residential areas that do not receive the green waste service will receive the Hard Waste Clean Up service on the usual day of collection in that location. Items will be collected by different trucks at various times through the day.

No bookings are required for the service, simply place items neatly on the nature strip by 6.00am on the day of pickup. However, items should fit within an area of two metres wide by two metres deep and stand no more than a metre high. Items should also be easily lifted onto a truck by two people.

Acting Mayor of Clarence, Alderman Jock Campbell, said the annual hard waste clean-up gives residents the convenience of removing large items from their properties.

“The Annual Hard Waste Clean-Up is a good opportunity for residents to get rid of items that cannot be collected through our normal wheelie bin service,” Alderman Campbell said.

“If residents think an item is too good to throw away and it can be reused, then we encourage them to contact their local charity as it may be of use to someone else.”

For safety reasons, items such as fridges, freezers and trunks will be collected but must have the doors, lids, locks and hinges removed.

Items such as paint tins, broken glass, asbestos, fencing wire, chemicals, car parts, gas cylinders, garden refuse, cardboard and loose rubble will not be collected.

To find out collection dates for your area, what can and can’t be collected and specific requirements for collection, visit the website at www.ccc.tas.gov.au/annualcleanup or phone 6245 8600. Information and notifications of the service prior to the collection date are also available on the My Local App which can be downloaded for free from iTunes.
